Join NEW's Internship Program

The Neighborhood Empowerment and Wealth Collective, Inc. (NEW) invites college, university, and tech students, along with new professionals and high school seniors, to join our dynamic, enriching, and fulfilling internship.

The NEW Internship Program is a gateway into the heart of purpose-driven work. At NEW, our commitment is to redefine the pathways from renting to homeownership for Georgia’s workforce, especially for families and essential workers who have traditionally been left behind in the housing market. This program offers more than practical experience; it is an invitation for emerging leaders to become a vital part of Kingdom Village, a community being created to empower residents, catalyze economic vitality, and demonstrate what is possible when nonprofit vision meets regional action.

Interns will leave empowered, skilled, and connected, having contributed to the success of the Kingdom Village project while advancing NEW’s goal to uplift Middle Georgia’s workforce, families, and neighborhoods.

From the moment interns begin their journey with NEW, they are welcomed as valued colleagues whose work directly impacts the success of our initiatives. This is not a program of shadowing or passive observation. Instead, participants engage with real challenges, contribute to active projects, and see their efforts translate into tangible outcomes for families across our region. Whether supporting financial coaching sessions that help families prepare for homeownership, analyzing data that shapes our strategic decisions, or working alongside architects to design homes that balance affordability with dignity, each intern’s contribution matters deeply to our mission.

Program Philosophy

The foundation of our internship program rests on a simple but powerful belief: the next generation of leaders in housing, community development, and social impact deserves authentic, hands-on experience that connects their academic knowledge to real-world application. We recognize that true professional development occurs not through simulation or theory alone, but through meaningful engagement with actual communities, genuine challenges, and measurable outcomes. This philosophy shapes every aspect of the intern experience at NEW, from the careful matching of candidates to appropriate tracks through the ongoing mentorship that ensures both professional growth and personal fulfillment.

Our approach to intern development emphasizes both depth and breadth of experience. While each participant focuses on a specific track aligned with their interests and background, they also gain exposure to the interconnected nature of community development work. A housing development intern learns how financial coaching impacts homeowner success. A communications intern understands how data measurement drives our storytelling. An architecture intern sees how community engagement shapes design decisions. This holistic exposure prepares interns not just for their first job after graduation, but for careers where they can navigate complex challenges and collaborate across disciplines.

The Kingdom Village Connection

Kingdom Village serves as both the physical and philosophical center of the internship experience. This innovative community development project provides interns with a living laboratory where theory meets practice, where plans become homes, and where individual growth contributes to collective advancement. Unlike internships that might involve hypothetical projects or isolated tasks, work at Kingdom Village connects directly to families who will call these homes their own, to children who will grow up in these neighborhoods, and to a community that will thrive through collective investment in its future.

Interns witness and contribute to every phase of community development, from initial planning and stakeholder engagement through construction and resident support. They participate in community meetings where residents share their hopes and concerns. They assist with workshops where families build financial literacy and prepare for homeownership. They help analyze data that demonstrates our impact to funders and partners. They support the creation of stories that inspire others to join our mission. Through these experiences, interns develop not just professional skills but also a deep understanding of how thoughtful, inclusive development can transform communities.
