Help Us Create Affordable Homes for Hard Working Families in Georgia
In today’s economy, the American Dream of homeownership is slipping away from too many families who serve our communities – teachers, first responders, healthcare workers, librarians, and other essential workers. These individuals dedicate their lives to making our communities better places to live, yet they struggle to afford a home of their own.
What We Believe
At NEW, we believe in a society where everyone who works hard and contributes to their community should have the opportunity to become a homeowner because it is the key to empowering them with a sense of security, belonging, and the ability to build generational wealth.
The Harsh Reality
Well-known data clearly shows that moderate-income workers, especially renters, face significant housing affordability challenges. Nearly half of all renters are cost-burdened, spending over 30% of their income on housing. For moderate-income renters earning $30,000-44,999, the situation is even worse, with 58% being cost-burdened. This makes saving for a home purchase extremely difficult.
Even more harsh is the evidence that the median home price is nearly five times the median household income, putting homeownership out of reach for most moderate-income workers. The shortage of affordable rental homes further exacerbates the problem, driving up rents and making it even harder for these workers to save.
Our Solution: The Kingdom Village Community
The Kingdom Village is the core of NEW’s vision for affordable workforce housing and community empowerment. It is a dynamic development plan that aims to create thriving, inclusive neighborhoods where moderate-income, essential workers can not only afford to live but also prosper and build a better future for themselves and their families.
At the heart of the Kingdom Village concept is the goal of providing high-quality, affordable homes specifically designed for homeownership. By offering a diverse range of single-family homes with varying sizes and configurations, NEW ensures that families can find the perfect fit for their needs and priorities. These homes will be sold at below-market rates, making homeownership accessible to those who represent the backbone of our society and who have been wrongfully locked out of the traditional housing market due to soaring prices and limited affordable inventory.
The Kingdom Village: A Safe Place to Put Down Roots
But the Kingdom Village is more than just a collection of affordable homes. It is a holistic, community-driven approach to development that focuses on creating a supportive ecosystem where residents can thrive. NEW plans to establish essential community-based businesses and services within each Kingdom Village, such as community gardens and markets, affordable daycare centers, after-school programs, computer literacy and financial education training, and reliable work commuter services. By providing these resources and opportunities, NEW empowers residents to build skills, connect with their neighbors, and create a strong sense of community.
